John 3:9-15 - That's Just the Way It Is

In this sermon, Rev. Mike Wenzler looks at John 3:9-15, where the dialogue between Nicodemus and Jesus turns into a monologue; Jesus teaches and Nicodemus listens. Nicodemus wanted to know "how can these things be" and Jesus will tell him, though our Lord's answer is not what Nicodemus expected. Part of the answer includes mention of an Old Testament story of Moses and the Israelites as they wandered through the wilderness.

John 3:1-10 - New Birth

In this sermon, Rev. Chris Vogel looks at John 3:1-10. Nicodemus comes to see Jesus at night and discovers first hand the insufficiency of his own understanding of who Jesus is and why He has come. This passage introduces us to familiar verses in John’s Gospel. Jesus’ response to Nicodemus’ compliment (“We know that you are a teacher come from God…”) is met with the call that “unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The supernatural new birth that comes from above forms the basis of their discussion, taking us to Old Testament passages to show us what it means to follow Christ.

John 2:13-25 - Commercialized Christianity

In this sermon, Rev. Chris Vogel looks at John 2:13-25, where Jesus clears the temple of those selling the animals for sacrifice and the moneychangers. More than just a frustration with avarice or a statement against commercialism, Jesus is setting the stage for a renewed worship. His death for our sins and resurrection on the third day establishes a whole new way of approaching God the Father.
