 Today in Worship…we begin a new series in preparation for a seminar this summer and new community group studies in the autumn. Each of the four weeks in May we will examine the 4 G’s of Peacemaking as we look at the four passages listed below.  This outline, as well as the seminar August 20 and the studies in the fall, are taken from Ken Sande’s book, The Peacemaker. This Sunday we will look at the the 1^st G: Glorify God as we examine 1 Corinthians 10:31.

1 Corinthians 15:20-28 - Secured by the Resurrection

1 Corinthians 12:12-31 - Relating the Life-Changing Gospel in Community

In this sermon, Rev. Ben Sinnard continues our five-week series looking at Cornerstone’s Vision Statement. Through the lens of various Scriptures we will examine what we consider our main calling as a church. This week we will look at 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 where we see God calls people to Cornerstone to relate this life-changing message to the Cornerstone community. In this passage, Paul is explaining that we are one body through the work of the Holy Spirit and we're called to use our gifts to relate the Gospel to each other in the unique ways that God has made each of us. This will naturally create a community that has both an inward health and a positive outward reach, is life-giving, gospel-saturated, and missional.

In this message, our focus will be on the unity and the diversity of the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12 shows us that God’s gifting in the Church calls us to each participate in such a way that values the differences we each possess.

Guest Bio: Dan Quakkelaar was a member of Cornerstone from 2000 until 2006 when a job change moved him to Columbus, OH. He served as a Ruling Elder at Northwest Presbyterian Church where he taught and provided one-on-one shepherding of members. In 2009 Dan’s position as VP Database Marketing & Analysis at Highlights for Children Magazine was eliminated, at which time he sensed a call to seminary which was confirmed by his Session, family, and friends. Dan is at Covenant Seminary and will graduate with an M. Div. in May. Much of the emphasis in his education is in church planting which he intends to pursue after graduation.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 - A Christian Focus

In this sermon we examine how the Apostle Paul described his arrival in the city of Corinth, focused on his mission of proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. A gospel focus was essential in Corinth, a city filled with distractions, and it remains essential for the Church today, living in an age of religious fads and empty gospels.
