Psalm 2 "The song of the Anointed"

In this message – This morning we are taking a week to look at Psalm 2. This Psalm is one of the most frequently quoted in the NT and shows the picture of the rule and reign of the Messiah who was to come from the family of King David. We will see how God’s Anointed King will be ultimately fulfilled in Jesus.  He will rule over all nations and in the end will be the one before whom all others will bow and in whom we can take our refuge!

Living as Exiles: Beautiful Submission 1 Peter 3:1-7

2 Kings 19:14-37 Sovereignty on Display

Today in Worship we continue looking at the Old Testament narratives in the book of 2 Kings. Following from last week, we are looking at the account of King Hezekiah’s reign in Judah during an impending Assyrian invasion. We see God’s sovereign, preserving grace at work in the lives of Hezekiah and the remnant of Judah. A key question for us all to consider in light of this passage is this: who or what in our lives do we seek to give us a sense of security or control?

John 21:15-19, Lives of Restoration

Today in Worship…we will be looking at the text of John 21:15-19. Following from last week, we see Jesus’ last moments on earth being poured into his disciples. This passage focuses specifically on Jesus’ restoration and reinstatement of Peter as an Apostle and shepherd of the sheep. We see the heart of the Gospel in Jesus’ restoring Peter to the office of Apostle and also among the community of disciples. Peter is restored, recommissioned, and charged to follow Christ.

Philippians 1:12-18a - Circumstances, Celebration, and the Powerful Message of Christ

In this sermon, Andrew Whitaker looks at Philippians 1:12-18a as we continue our sermon series in Paul's letter to the Philippian church. In this passage we see Paul as imprisoned and writing to the Philippian believers to let them know that God is very much at work amidst his circumstances and hardships. Through this passage we see a rich reminder that whenever we see the Gospel advancing that is cause for celebration. The message of Christ is powerful and is not bound by our limitations or notions of effectiveness. Do we rejoice when we see the Gospel at work among our church or other churches or we do we have a cynical or nearsighted view that finds it hard to rejoice? This the question this text helps us wrestle with.

Proverbs 22:29; 23:4; 27:23-27 - Lessons in Proverbs: Work

In this sermon, Andrew Whitaker will be looking at what scripture says concerning our work and vocation, and gaining wisdom from Proverbs as to discerning how to work wisely. There are many places in Proverbs that speak about work, but we will be looking at a few: Prov. 22:29, 23:4, and 27:23-27. All of us have questions we bring to the table concerning our callings in this life and what we do day in and day out—How does our work connect to the Gospel? Will my work last and is it a worthy endeavor? These questions will be taken seriously as we get a message of hope from the scriptures which spur us on to work wisely, for the glory of God and to further the kingdom of God here on earth.
