Powerful Prayer Acts 4: 23-32

Today, we are reminded of the One to whom we go in prayer and what we must seek. In Acts 4:23-32, God’s people gather to pray to our Sovereign Lord, asking for boldness to proclaim the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection. We, like the early church, must understand God’s gracious control of His universe, and that He works His world for His glory. With this rooted in our hearts, we can move forward boldly.

Today in Worship – we encounter the tension we all face in confessing our faith in a world that does not see life through the lens of the resurrection. In Acts 4:13-22, Peter and John are brought before the Sanhedrin, Israel’s Supreme Court, and are told to cease speaking of Jesus. Their response guides our thoughts today as to how we are to think and speak in today’s world.

The Power of a Name Acts 4:1-12

We return to our series in Acts picking up on the repercussions of the healed man (from Acts 3) as we tackle Acts 4:1-12.  Today we will see a strong inquiry from the Sadducees to Peter and the others, “By what power or by what name did you do this (healing)?”  Peter not only responds factually but preaches the good news.  We often bolt when persecuted, buckle under pressure, or boast in self promotion over powerfully resting in the name of Jesus.  There is power in one name, Jesus Christ, who saves us physically and spiritually, redeeming our need for self-protection, self-worth and self-focus.  What name do you claim?

God's Restoration of Brokenness - Acts 3:11-26

After the healing of the lame man, the crowds were astonished at what they saw. Peter, in Acts 3:11-26, connects the restoration of health of the lame man with the restorative power of the Gospel. The renewal in our lives comes as we see our own brokenness and need for spiritual health and then looking to Christ for the refreshing for which we so long.

From Lame to Leaping -Acts 3:1-10

    Today, we will be looking at an encounter with Peter and John and a lame beggar.  As we read this encounter there is great need but also great provision (healing) as we see the lame man begin leaping.  As we wrestle with this passage we are left asking who do we see ourselves as in this narrative?  Am I the beggar?  Am I the leaping man?  Am I Peter the healer?  What we’ll see is that we aren’t just one, but rather all three.  We are lavished as lame beggars that in our leaping we may proclaim the healing name of Jesus to all who are sick, needy, and themselves a beggar.

The Spirit Filled Church Acts 2:42-47

Acts 2:42-47—We will be looking at a glimpse of the Spirit-filled church after Pentecost—how they lived and worshiped together after many came to saving faith. We will be applying what it looks like to be a modern day Spirit-filled church, where we too have the common bond of life in Jesus.

In this message, In Acts 2:37-41 those gathered at Pentecost are cut to the heart by knowing that their sin crucified their Messiah. As they realized their need for change, Peter offers them hope: “Repent and be baptized…” Hope comes as change is offered in totality by God’s grace.

God's Grace in Christ's Humiliation and Exaltation - Acts 2:22-36

In Acts 2:22-36 Peter transitions from God’s work in sending the Spirit to a bold proclamation of the Heavenly Father’s grace in Jesus’ humiliation and exaltation. What happened to Jesus on the cross was not only prophecied centuries before, but was a part of God’s definite plan. This plan also included the resurrection and ascension of God’s Anointed One. The crucified One is now the exalted One, seated at the Father’s right hand.

The Spirit and Salvation Acts 2:14-21

Today in Worship –  In Acts 2:14-21 we see the beginning of one of the greatest sermons ever preached. This sermon, preached by Peter, who just a number of days ago was denying Jesus, is now boldly proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.  In quoting Joel 2:28-32, Peter is proclaiming the Spirit’s outpouring as the explanation for the strange behavior of the believers but also as the ushering in of the new age, an age marked by signs and wonders, visions and dreams, and salvation.  Salvation which is being granted to all who call on the name of the Lord. For in Jesus alone is salvation and hope.

While for the past century, this unique event has cause much discussion and division in the western church, it is written to encourage us to better grasp the powerful gift of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church today. Here we are challenged to see that all Christians, even Presbyterians, are Pentecostal.

God's Building Blocks For The Church- Acts 1:12-26

In this message, In Acts 1:12-26 we see the first steps of the church following the ascension of Jesus Christ. With Christ at the right hand of the Father, the disciples build the church on prayer, God’s Word and the foundation laid by the apostles. Despite the uncertainty they faced following the death of Judas and while waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit, they laid the foundation of the Church.
