Elijah's confrontation details the consequences of Ahab's greedy heart, but also opens the door to God's mercy and Ahab's repentance. That God celebrates the messy, short-lived and questionable heart change of the king gives us hope when our repentances are less than perfect. Nevertheless, the consequences remain.
