In this sermon, Rev. Chris Vogel begins a five-week series looking at Cornerstone’s Vision Statement. Through the lens of various Scriptures we will examine what we consider our main calling as a church. This week we will look at Hebrews 6:13-20, where we are encouraged to hold fast to the hope set before us. God’s promise and oath serve as our assurance that Jesus, as our High Priest, secures our position before God. This passage, flowing out of God’s calling of Abraham in Genesis 12, 15, 17 and 22 reminds us that it is God who calls us today, a calling that is not just personal, but into a family, which for us is most immediately experienced here at Cornerstone. Matthew 9:9-13 - Jesus, Friend of Sinners
In this sermon, Rev. Dan Quakkelaar looks at Matthew 9:9-13. After calling Matthew to follow him, the Pharisees catch Jesus reclining with Matthew’s friends – sinners and agents of Herod Antipas’ tax collection force. They question the propriety of Jesus’ association with those who drag down the whole culture of Israel. But Jesus, setting the pattern of the gospel of grace for us, questions the pharisaical avoidance of these fallen Israelites, and condemns their lack of mercy.

2 Timothy 4:1-22 - A Gospel Perspective
In this sermon, Jay Nelson looks at the last written words of the Apostle Paul to his son in the Christian faith, Timothy, in 2 Timothy 4. Although Paul knows that his life is nearing its end, we will see that the good news of Jesus Christ dominates Paul's thinking, giving him a perspective for future generations, eternity, as well as the last days that he has upon the earth. This wonderful perspective is something that all who love the Gospel may share in.

John 6:60-71 - Hard Sayings and Hard to Say
In this sermon, Rev. Chris Vogel looks at John 6:60-71. In light of Jesus’ demand that his followers eat His flesh and drink His blood, many of the disciples walk away. Jesus makes it clear that the faith to consume Christ is a faith that comes from the Spirit and is granted by the Father. This truth calls for a response, as seen by Peter’s words, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

John 6:52-59 - Eating and Drinking Jesus
Rev. Chris Vogel looks at John 6:52-59 where Jesus continues His Bread of Life sermon, making the connection for the crowds that if they want eternal life, they must eat His flesh and drink His blood. While there are understandable Eucharistic comparisons made in this passage, both what Jesus says here and does in the Upper Room the necessity for us to feast on Christ alone for our hope for eternal life.
